The Plot Thickens, Somehow (Isekai Cheat Magician Episodes 5 & 6 Review)

Animation was never an issue to me until I saw this anime. I never judged a series based off of its animation as it was never an issue to me. I would always see other people on Twitter and Instagram comparing or complaining about the animation quality of an anime series and I honestly wouldn’t see what they’re talking about. I thought, “What does it matter if the plot is good?”

And then I saw Isekai Cheat Magician

Now I don’t think I can look at animation the same way again.

OKAY, now on to the show!

Apparently Grammy (couldn’t they have chosen a better name?) isn’t so bad? Or maybe just an anti-hero character? Anyway, after Muller was taken by the creepy Crimson Pact guys Grammy had actually helped Rin find her which was pretty unexpected. I thought that maybe she had a change of heart and genuinely wanted to help until she said “You guys are my prey,” and then I was reminded of how absolutely weird and creepy she is.

Haha… Creepy Grammy

Anyway, Rin successfully saves Muller from the Crimson guys thanks to her plot armor of being a multi-elemental magician, and then some guy who’s referred to as “Your Eminence” that is obviously the boss villain reveals his entire plan to destroy the town of Azpire as if they couldn’t just kill him right there. Of course according to tv show logic they actually couldn’t as that would’ve solved everyone’s problems and then there wouldn’t be a story…

After discussing a plan with the mayor (I think?) of Azpire and getting Lemia into the mix the focus is put on Taichi who happened to find a goblin chamber while out with former assassin Anastasia. There they found the twin earth magicians Milo and Melo who were actually the ones that created all the goblins. Imagine, two little toddlers who were almost responsible for the murders of an entire town and they probably weren’t completely aware of what they were doing.

Luckily Taichi saved them and got rid of all the goblins and joined forces with the twins just in time for the attack on Azpire. Meanwhile, Rin launches the ultimate attack on the army of Crimson orcs and ogres by combining the elements of water, earth, and fire to create a bomb to take out the weaklings. It was successful, but it took a lot of her magic power so she was left very weak. Then when they get to the battlefield the three try to fight the big guys. Lemia and Muller were fine but since she was so drained Rin had a bit of trouble. This resulted in her practically giving up when one of the big bosses was close to squashing her, but luckily Taichi ran in just in time to save her.

What I don’t get is why Lemia and Muller weren’t helping her. They were right in front of her. They were literally not busy at all. Obviously it was done to set up Taichi’s grand entrance, but it made the scene look really stupid! It could’ve been done better if Lemia and Muller were at least fighting at the exact moment Rin was in trouble, but no, they were just staring and calling out her name 🙂

Despite my complaints I actually thought these last two episodes were pretty good. They were far more interesting than the last four, so now I don’t feel so stupid for forcing myself to watch it.

What about you guys? Did you ever actually finish the anime or was the animation so horrible it made you drop it altogether?

    I haven’t dropped it yet.

    I just haven’t watched past episode 7.

    Since about August.

      1. Honestly, no. It’s not bad enough to make me drop it.

It’s not entertaining enough to entice me to watch it.

I think what bothered me the most was the missed potential, especially with Rin and Myura.

I think Karandi from 100 Word Anime hit the nail on the head with her reviews, starting with episode 1:

I’ll probably get around to finishing it. Eventually. Probably.
