“Sorry, I Love Julius” (Re:Zero Episodes 24 & 25 Review)

So now it’s all over for me! I took so long to finish this series, but at least I’m done in time for the second season.

I have a question: am I the only one who felt a little salty over the way Episode 25 had ended?

I mean, I’m really happy for Emilia, don’t get me wrong. I know that after being ostracized and ridiculed for the way she looked she probably believed that no one would really love her in a romantic way. So in that sense I’m really happy for her. I just find it ironic how the only man who loves her in that way was the guy she was originally trying to get away from. She literally put him in another person’s house so they wouldn’t see each other anymore.

In a way I’m also happy for Subaru. He really made an effort to save Emilia and make her accepted by everyone which might’ve not been possible without him constantly trying to butt in and defend her. Now everyone is willing to be nicer to her, he and Emilia made up, and he even confessed his love to her. I guess for him that’s a really big achievement. Still, I really wanted her to reply, “Sorry, I love Julius,” just so he could something back for what he did to Rem.

You can tell I’m still not over that whole situation. I mean, are you kidding me?? Rem literally sacrificed herself for him so many times and Subaru just brushed her off like nothing. But that’s a rant for another time 🙂

But at least he didn’t necessarily get a definite answer back from Emilia (I feel a little satisfaction with that)! He’s most likely going to spend the next season trying to win her over…. I hope he fails.

I don’t know, I kind of feel like he started crushing on Emilia in the beginning because of the fact that he literally spent his time playing fantasy RPGs and probably really wanted an elf girlfriend. I mean, if we’re really going to be honest, that’s most likely why he wanted to pursue her in the first place.

But of course that most likely later turned into genuine attraction as time went on, I’m not denying it. However, what else was it that made him want her so badly? I’m sure he genuinely feels like he loves her, but what if there’s something else that has to do with it? What if he likes her because of her resemblance to the witch? What if he really is the embodiment of Pride and is actually chasing after Satella’s love the way Betelgeuse did?

To me it’d make a lot of sense since Subaru is so naturally prideful and big-headed about himself that it would at least seem like he could be Pride. Plus, there were plenty of scenes where Betelgeuse or a “finger” would ask him about it. Yes, he denies it every time, but what if it just wasn’t fully awakened yet? What if that was why he was suddenly taken over to this other world and made contact with the witch?

… Maybe I’m thinking about it too much. We’ll find out next season!
